Blind Dog Finds A Guide In His Forever New Friend

Jess worried about Toby’s reaction when they introduced him to their sister, a nine-year-old terrier. Toby was Jess’s boyfriend and the idea of expanding their family seemed a bit daunting. Yet they did share some adventures together. I developed a deep bond.

Amos, the  dog, had never experienced living in a house before meeting Jess and Toby. His entire existence was in the rescue center. Adjusting to indoor life has been difficult for Amos – he didn’t like the feeling of the carpet hitting his paws against the walls, he even developed a fear of the noise of the TV. Simple tasks like finding his water bowl become very difficult for this dog.

At first, Toby, suspicious of Amos, surprises Jess by offering something. Whenever Toby notices Amos struggling to find his water bowl with staring eyes, he gently guides him in the direction with thrusts. What started as a push eventually turned into Toby becoming Amos’ mentor. It was clear to Jess and her family that they had gained another friend.

When Amos was older, he was evaluated by an ophthalmologist. It was decided that removing his eyes would be the course of action as it was very likely to cause him daily discomfort and suffering.

Toby soon takes on the role of “guide dog” for Amos after the operation.

At first, when Amos and Toby went for a walk, he was nervous. The sounds around him will scare him. He often needs to take breaks to rest and regain focus. Whenever Amos was ready to continue, Toby would immediately lie beside him!

Nowadays, one of their activities as companions is hiking through the hills! Toby uses physical shocks and thrusts to help Amos navigate the slopes.. If Amos wanders off the track, Toby helps put him on the right track.

They have a bond. Show consideration for each other’s limitations.

Although Amos has become adept at hiking, he still has a lot to learn about interacting and socializing with canines. During these encounters, Toby often acts as a mediator because many dogs fear Amos’s inability to communicate like a dog. Every day, Toby and Jess work together to enhance his skills!

Amos could not have asked for a guide or protector from Toby! They’ve been there for each other as buddies, through thick and thin.
