A very exciting news has just been revealed: David Beckham has officially appointed Javier Mascherano as the new head coach of Inter Miami.
David Beckham has appointed Javier Mascherano as the new head coach of Inter Miami, where he will reunite with Lionel Messi and former Barcelona teammates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, according to The Sun. The move means that Mascherano, who was Messi’s teammate at Argentina, will now coach him at the club in the US.
Inter Miami, last season’s MLS Eastern Conference champions, have parted ways with coach Tata Martino following their disappointing MLS Cup playoff defeat to Atlanta United, a blow to owner David Beckham’s side, who were considered the favourites to win the title after a sensational transfer window.
According to Mirror, before taking the job at Inter Miami, Javier Mascherano started his coaching career with the Argentine youth team. This will be his first time taking on the role of head coach at a professional club.
Mascherano began his playing career in Argentina with River Plate before moving to Corinthians in Brazil. His talent quickly attracted attention from European clubs, leading to him joining West Ham alongside compatriot Carlos Tevez.
Despite his limited success at West Ham, Mascherano found his feet at Liverpool, where he made 139 appearances and made his mark as a defensive midfielder. He then enjoyed a successful career at Barcelona, where he formed a brilliant partnership with Messi, Busquets, Alba and Suarez.
After eight years with Barcelona, Mascherano moved to China to play for Hebei China Fortune in 2018, before returning to Argentina and ending his playing career with Estudiantes in 2019.
With a wealth of experience from his career at the top and a close relationship with the big stars at Inter Miami, Mascherano is expected to bring a new breeze to Beckham’s team. Fans are looking forward to the combination between him and Messi to help Inter Miami achieve great success in the future.
