There are those few feelings in life that we all live for. Surely, one of the most beautiful is when we pet a dog.
Whether you’re burying your hands in thickly-coiled fur or letting your fingers slide down a floppy, silky-smooth ear, this joy cannot be compared to anything else.
However, the feeling is not reserved only for humans. Believe it or not, one affectionate dog loves nothing more than petting other pups.
And, he is not ashamed to show it in front of everyone.
A dog named Ruby regularly comes to The Den Doggy Daycare with her canine brother, Miles. This German Shorthair Pointer is anything but laid-back when it comes to making friends at this place. But, she does it in her own, very unusual way.
Instead of jumping around and chasing other dogs, she pets them.
As strange as it may seem, Ruby never keeps her paw to herself. Her dog friends are confused at first, but she always gently extends her paw towards them as if to say “Hi”, and starts petting them in the manner of the most experienced dog owner.
Most of them enjoy it in the end, and some even want more!
One woman, named Alanah Lorraine, who regularly brings her dog, Lexy, to daycare first noticed Ruby’s “unusual behavior”.
“She does it every time she is in,” Lorraine told The Dodo. “We think she wants attention!”
Lorraine couldn’t resist capturing at least a few of these cute scenes, which she did several times when she found herself in the right place.
When she finally had enough material, Lorraine put all the clips into one video that she posted on her TikTok profile. The video soon became a real hit on the Internet.
“I thought it would be adorable,” Lorraine said, “but I never imagined it would go viral.”
In a very short time, the video received thousands of views, likes, and shares. And, as it usually happens, it didn’t take long for it to be noticed by some very popular sites.
One of those was WeRateDogs, who shared the news about Ruby on their Twitter account, rating the video 14/10.
People couldn’t get enough of Ruby petting other dogs. They absolutely loved it!
There were also interesting comments on Reddit.
“My dog does the same,” CertainlyForgetful said. “About half the time it’s because he wants to play and the other half is because he’s either trying to get their attention or wants them to calm down.”
ThePelicanWalksAgain commented: “Occasionally the dog is mimicking a human action, but usually when you see this the dog is trying to see if the other dog wants to play! It’s similar to them doing a play bow, or shoving their butt in another dog’s face.”
Clever_Userfame claimed a dog trainer told them it is something called “minor dominance behavior” and is “sometimes used to start play.”
However, in addition to the “professional discussion” about what actually causes this kind of behavior, other comments were directed toward the scene itself, described as adorable by most of them.
In the end, regardless of everything, Ruby showed that even dogs sometimes know how to do something that is “reserved” only for humans.
We think that Ruby can actually be an example to many people about what affection towards dogs looks like, especially to those who are not very kind to these beautiful animals.
